About .Ac.pk Domain (Registrars, Prices, and More)

An .ac.pk domain gives an academic or educational service in Pakistan a purpose-labelled web address without requiring formal educational accreditation.

PKNIC launched the category on 15 May 2024 for tuition academies, online training providers, researchers, virtual education projects and other academic services.

That makes it broader than .edu.pk, which PKNIC reserves for established educational institutes that can meet its verification rules.

The current direct registry fee for a registrant based in Pakistan equals PKR 2,100 per year, but PKNIC collects the fee in two-year blocks.

The minimum direct payment therefore comes to PKR 4,200. Resellers set their own retail totals and can add management or support services.

The category describes what your website does. It does not certify your courses, prove government recognition or guarantee that students will trust the provider.

What does .AC.PK mean?

.pk identifies Pakistan’s country-code domain namespace. The ac label narrows the address to academic and educational activity. A complete name might look like learn.ac.pk, skillslab.ac.pk or researchdesk.ac.pk if PKNIC makes that exact label available.

PKNIC’s .ac.pk announcement names educational services, research, virtual education, tuition academies and online training among the intended uses.

The registry opened registration to everyone at launch and did not run a Sunrise period for trademark owners or institutions.

Open registration does not make every use appropriate. A restaurant, clothing shop or logistics company would communicate its purpose more clearly through .pk, .com.pk or another fitting category.

An academy, tutor marketplace or course platform can use .ac.pk to make the educational context visible in the address itself.

Who can register an .AC.PK domain?

PKNIC does not require formal accreditation or registration with an education department for .ac.pk.

Its current domain rules repeat that distinction.

The category can fit:

• a tuition or exam-preparation academy;

• an independent trainer or group of tutors;

• an online course or virtual classroom provider;

• a research, learning-resource or academic-support project;

• a professional training centre;

• an education technology service; or

• a new academic service that has not obtained institutional accreditation.

You still need to describe the service honestly. Do not use the suffix, a logo or website copy to imply accreditation that you do not hold.

PKNIC also places responsibility on applicants to avoid names that infringe another party’s rights.

.AC.PK versus .EDU.PK

The right choice depends on the applicant’s status, not which ending looks more prestigious.

Choose .edu.pk only when the institute can meet PKNIC’s current conditions. Those rules require a bona fide educational institute with sizeable active student enrolment, a domain that matches or clearly abbreviates the institute’s name, an authorisation letter and recognition evidence.

Choose .ac.pk when the work genuinely concerns education or academic services but the applicant does not fit that accredited-institution route. Do not describe .ac.pk as a weaker .edu.pk; it serves a different group.

Naming rules for .AC.PK

.ac.pk uses PKNIC’s third-level naming rules. The part you choose before the suffix can contain from one to 63 characters, while the complete domain cannot exceed 70 characters.

PKNIC also applies these controls:

• the label cannot begin or end with a hyphen;

• it cannot contain two consecutive hyphens;

• pk, www and PKNIC suffix names remain reserved in this position;

• a blocked or reserved name cannot proceed;

• generic dictionary words can qualify unless another policy rule prevents registration; and

• you do not need to preconfigure nameservers before registering.

Availability does not clear a name for use. Check existing academies, company names and trademarks before you pay. PKNIC policy says registration does not create legal rights to the name, and the registry cannot screen every request for infringement.

A useful domain should also survive a spoken test. brightpath.ac.pk works only if a learner can hear it once, spell it correctly and distinguish it from similarly named providers.

Current .AC.PK prices in Pakistan

The current PKNIC homepage says Pakistan-based registrants pay PKR 2,100 per year from 1 August 2026.

Because the registry bills biennially, its direct minimum equals PKR 4,200 for two years.

A registrant or registrar based outside Pakistan pays USD 15.99 per year, also in two-year blocks, for a USD 31.98 minimum.

Some PKNIC pages still show old amounts. The registration page displays PKR 1,800 per year, while the 2024 .ac.pk launch page displays PKR 1,600. The dated August 2026 update and today’s domain-structure page both show PKR 2,100, so they provide the stronger current baseline.

How to compare .AC.PK registrars

PKNIC lets customers register directly and also encourages them to use channel partners or resellers.

PKNIC states that these sellers operate independently; it has one office in Lahore and does not treat reseller offices as its branches.

Compare more than the first price:

• Renewal total: Confirm the next two-year charge, not an annual equivalent.

• Account control: Keep the registrant name, email and recovery details under the domain owner’s control.

• DNS access: Check whether you can edit records and nameservers without waiting for a support ticket.

• Expiry handling: Ask when the seller sends reminders and what happens after the due date.

• Support route: Decide whether direct registry management or local registrar support suits your team.

• Extras: Separate hosting, email and website services from the domain fee.

How to register your domain

The practical sequence has seven steps:

1. Decide whether the service fits the academic or educational category.

2. Choose two or three short labels that reflect the real brand.

3. Search each complete .ac.pk name for availability.

What the registration does not include

A domain gives you the address. It does not store a website or create a working mailbox by itself.

PKNIC explicitly says it does not supply website or email hosting. If you register directly, you must arrange those services and point the domain to them.

A reseller can sell hosting or email alongside the domain, but check each product’s separate term and renewal.

The suffix also does not grant accreditation, approve a curriculum, protect a trademark or guarantee search rankings. Your website still needs accurate course information, clear ownership, contact details, secure forms and honest claims.
